Just in the Nica time ...
April 12, 2017: Progress shots of the many improvements underway!
February 28, 2017
We're overdue for an update ... this time from our gorgeous property that we now OWN! It took an additional 4 weeks to close on the property, but it finally happened. We are now hard at work to make the Elementos del Sur dream a reality. What exactly does that mean?
Right now, lots of SHOPPING!
Heath's in Nicaragua, driving back and forth to Managua, Rivas, Masaya and other cities to source materials. After lots and lots of research and "learning experiences" in the process, Heath bought a 12-passenger van for the business! He's now on the hunt for appliances, as we look to update and improve efficiency for all AC units, refrigerator, washer and dryer (a luxury in Nica), mini-fridges for the rooms, and dishwashers. He's working with a local carpenter to source natural wood to bring on site so the carpenter can build all of our custom furniture, like bed frames, sectional couches and chairs, daybeds by the pool, and tables. He's buying cleaning materials, pots and pans, pool supplies, paper products, bath mats ... all of the things required for not only starting life over in a new place, but starting a business as well!
Meanwhile, Angela (who have we mentioned is less than 2 months away from delivering their first child?!) is back in the States doing what she can to help from afar. This includes plenty of shopping of her own, particularly for items that are not easily attainable in Nica. Imported items can be very costly to buy in Nicaragua, whereas locally made items are relatively inexpensive in comparison. This means custom-made furniture is affordable, but good quality towels are not. One thing Elementos del Sur will not skimp on is quality sheets and towels. Therefore, Angela has purchased all of these items in the U.S. and will attempt to pack them into checked baggage for her upcoming trip down there. Wish her luck!
We are still aiming for an April 1 opening date. We have a lot of work ahead to make this happen, but we are anxious to get business started and will work tirelessly so we can open our doors for guests. Thanks to everyone who has shown interest so far. Stay tuned for more updates!

Hello friends, neighbors and future guests! Welcome to our first blog post on our work-in-progress website. We are excited to get things up and running so we can share our experience with you.
As we are quickly learning, "Nica Time" requires a lot of patience. We are set to close on our property three weeks behind schedule, which is why the launch of our site and grand opening date have been extended. However, we are getting closer to finalizing the details and will be sure to share updates as we have them.
In the meantime, we're enjoying the "downtime" as we get to know our new home town. We arrived a week and a half ago with all of our belongings, and since the work cannot start on our business until we close on the property, we're taking advantage of trying out all the restaurants and getting to know the town so we can be better educated to inform our guests. It's tough work, but someone has to do it!
We will begin remodeling the property, working with local carpenters to make custom furniture, setting up utilities, buying appliances and other furnishings, etc as soon as we take possession. We will document the progress in this blog and our Facebook and Instagram pages.
Stay tuned for more updates! We can't wait to host you at Elementos del Sur and share our little slice of paradise with you.
